Narromine Wellness Weekend

My first Wellness weekend out west with some incredible humans.

We kicked off the weekend with an early morning workout at the local gym, The Shred Shed 2821 where we did a TOUGH 45min session. Throughout this workout we sweated, lifted and were pushed until there was no more left in the tank. A cracking way to start the weekend and it only got better from there.

From there we then moved on to Saturday nights nutrition seminar which was about "The Essentials of Health". Here the attendee's and myself talked about all things they need to focus on when looking at improving their health and these "essentials" were things they probably weren't expecting, such as;

Number 1 was awareness

  • Why do you think your previous attempts at getting healthier, stronger or fitter haven’t worked before?

  • It is because you didn’t deal with what is going on in your mind, you jumped straight into working on changing the external world without dealing with your internal world first

  • Humans are the decision maker AND the action taker. However we are not the sum of our thoughts, we are the thinker of our thoughts.

Number 2 Movement

  • Movement is key. However everybody’s bodies are different, so doing what is right for you and your ability is key.

Number 3 Nutrition but more specifically, Protein

  • Today’s society does NOT consume enough protein

  • It shouldn’t always be meat, supplementing with a good quality protein powder, eggs, egg whites, nuts and broths

  • Gen pop. Consume way too much convenient food which is basically, processed carbs, sugars and other additives

Number 4 Sleep

  • WHAT? Absolutely. Try not to focus on hours slept but rather quality of sleep

  • The sleep before midnight is the most valuable sleep because this is when our cells repair and renew themselves

  • 6hr of good quality sleep is much more important than 8hrs of broken sleep

  • Poor sleep leads to poor food choices because when our bodies are tired they release a hormone called “Ghrelin” which will make us FEEL hungry the next day

Number 5 Hydration

  • Sign and symptoms of DE-hydration can be hunger pains and headaches, dysfunctional cognitive skill as well as poor recovery from training sessions

  • Dehydration can feel very similar to hunger pains

  • By increasing your water intake you can control your appetite a lot better as well as your sugar cravings

  • Under this banner is also alcohol, caffeine, soft drink and energy drinks all of which can play havoc on your appetite, mood and sleep

AND THEN I ADDED SOME FINISHING POINTERS

  • RESTRICTING CALORIES IS NOT THE ANSWER ANYMORE

  • IT’S ALL ABOUT HORMONE HEALTH

  • WE NEED TO LOOK AFTER THE LIVER IN ORDER TO GET IT BACK TO BURNING FAT LIKE IT USED TOO. ALL IT DOES NOW IS TRY AND DETOX THE BODY FROM HEAVILY PROCESSED FOODS AND SUGARS

  • IF WE DON’T CHANGE OUR INTERNAL WORLD BUT STILL EXPECT OUR EXTERNAL WORLD TO CHANGE, WE WILL BE WAITING A WHILE

  • MANAGE YOUR MIND AND YOU CAN MANAGE THE REST. THE THOUGHTS WE THINK LEAD TO THE ACTIONS WE DO

  • START TO DISRUPT THE PATTERN. QUESTION YOUR STORIES THAT YOU KEEP COMING BACK TO. I AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH, I AM NOT CAPABLE, I AM NOT LOVEABLE, I AM NOT POPULAR ENOUGH.

  • IT’S NOT THAT WE CAN’T, IT'S MORE THAT WE WON’T.

Once the seminar rapped up after 2.5hrs of talking, discussing and educating it was time for some much deserved "wineing and dining" with some of the best. A hearty steak and great company it was a great way to spend a Saturday.

This was the moment when the ladies realised how short I really am, with heels on!!

Sunday we finished with a workout and coffee, of course!! We even had BYO cheerleaders which was the best!! Getting the whole family involved over the three events and meeting the amazing people I have had the pleasure to train since June from a place I call home. It really did "fill my bucket" and I can not wait to get back out to Narromine again soon. Next time when harvest isn't on, I apologise to those who could not make it due to the weather and harvest commitments. I'll sort my dates out better next time.

All in all it was an amazing three days and the fact I got to see my family as well was an added bonus. Thankyou to everyone who came and participated in the weekend and to those who couldn't but still supported me from afar.

Much love to you all,

Coach B xx
